Every three months, the Federal Election Commission (FEC) requires every campaign to file a quarterly report detailing how much they’ve raised and how many donations they’ve received. And then, that report goes public.

When these public reports are released, I immediately read through our potential GOP opponents’ filings. As Mikie’s Finance Director, it’s important for me to see how much grassroots support they have, how much they’re pacing ahead or behind us, and what decisions our campaign needs to make to maintain an advantage.

And I can promise you this: National Republicans will be doing the exact same thing to our report.

That’s why these deadlines are so important. If we fall short of our fundraising goals, that could encourage the GOP to start getting involved in this race and run attack ads that mislead voters about Mikie’s record. And in a presidential election year, early attacks usually spell trouble for us long-term.
