Hey everyone – Doris here! I’m gearing up to head back to Congress as we
reconvene next week, and I cannot wait to get back to work. We headed into
recess with a lot of pressing issues unresolved, and there’s a lot we must get
done this Fall. But before I tell you what I plan on doing next week, can you
give us an early September boost as we head towards the end of Q3?

When we recessed in late July, we had not yet found a solution to keeping the
government open.

The GOP-held House has once again caused dysfunction and threatened the
operations of the federal government with a shutdown. If we do not act swiftly,
our government could shut down in October.

Shutdowns disrupt care for America’s veterans, access to Social Security and
Medicare, and furlough hardworking federal workers. Not to mention they’re
costly to the American people. During the last shutdown in 2013, 16 days of
shutdown cost $2 billion. That’s $2 billion that could have been spent
bettering the lives of Americans.

This is simply unacceptable, and it is precisely why we need level-headed
leadership that can work across the aisle to ensure we avoid a government
shutdown. That’s why I’m committed to finding bipartisan solutions when
Congress reconvenes.

If you’ve had enough of the GOP-held House dysfunction, rush in a donation of
$30 or more to protect my seat as well as help flip the House blue!

We can do better, and we have the opportunity to change the way Congress
operates next November.
