To you – my friends – I want to share a special announcement I made today!

Of all the honors bestowed upon me by my colleagues – Whip, Leader, Speaker of the House – there is no greater honor for me than to stand on the Floor of the House and speak for the people of San Francisco.

Together we have delivered jobs, resources and opportunity for our City through times of growth and struggle, AIDS, earthquakes and pandemic, and we have always emerged stronger.

Right now, San Francisco again faces a delicate moment.

We need more jobs and more resources for public health and affordable housing and law enforcement to strengthen our community.

And we must keep working to ensure that every child has the chance to pursue the American Dream – here in the most magnificent City in the world.

At the same time, it’s no secret that American Democracy itself is on the line in 2024. Look no further than the Republican-controlled House, where extremists run the show.

They are pushing us to the brink of a devastating shutdown, which would:
- diminish our economy
- disrupt vital services
- and pull resources off our streets — including in our fight against the fentanyl crisis.

All this while working to:
- attack our reproductive freedom
- reverse lower drug prices
- and give obscene tax cuts to the rich.

It’s beyond clear: Republicans are too extreme to lead.

Friends — this is the fight we face.

And now more than ever, our City needs to advance our San Francisco values and to further our recovery.

And our country needs us — to show the world that our flag is still there, with liberty and justice for all.

That is why I am running for reelection to the United States Congress. And I respectfully ask for your support.

Because I believe — as I always have — that our City’s best days still lie ahead.
