John, I understand the struggles many Americans are facing. I’ve lived them.

I've been the single mother staring at the bills on the kitchen table, wondering how I was ever going to make ends meet.

I've been the person who had to bring my boys to my college classes – because I couldn't afford the high costs of child care. 

I've been the woman who gave up all financial stability to escape a violent marriage – and had to live paycheck to paycheck and on public assistance to scrape by.

John, when I became a congresswoman, these were the reasons why I vowed to be a voice for families like mine – and so far, that's what I've done.

From fighting to raise the minimum wage to working to lower health care costs and making child care more affordable, I have taken these issues and many more to the House of Representatives.

And now, I'm running for Senate so I can advance these fights and build a progressive future that truly represents us all.
