Time’s Up! We Need Term Limits ⌛

There’s no doubt we’ve got our hands full these days.

* Inflation is hurting families
<[link removed]>
* China
<[link removed]>
is hot on our trail
* There’s a full-fledged crisis
<[link removed]>
at our southern border
Is it really in our best interest to have aging elected officials leading the
charge when they canbarely stand up straight
<[link removed]>
?

This point isn’t about ageism, it’s about what is best for America.
Something’s gotta give. I’veproposed
<[link removed]>
term limits before—and I’m doing it again. Undermy resolution
<[link removed]>
, House members could serve three two-year terms while senators could serve two
six-year terms.

But here’s the reality check: Unless the current folks are grandfathered in (
no pun intended), Congress will never pass term limits. While I’d bring it to
the floor and vote for it tomorrow, most of these politicians aren’t going to
put themselves on the chopping block.

Which brings me to my next point…

If we can't quite wrangle them into term limits, we should at least make sure
older lawmakers pass a competency test. It just seems like common sense,
especially considering a whopping76 percent
<[link removed]>
of people support mandatory assessments for politicians older than 75.

There’s no doubt that getting anywhere on this issue will be an uphill battle
(it requires aconstitutional amendment
<[link removed]>
)—but I’m prepared to keep climbing.

Like a houseguest who won't take the hint, too many elected officials have
overstayed their welcome. Time’s up!

Put on your orange—the Tennessee Volunteers are at it again!

Football season is officially underway. The Vols came back onto the scene in a
big way last weekend, beating Virginia with a final score of 49-13.

There’s nothing like college football. It often feels like the one thing we
can all rally around that is uniquely American and rooted in friendly
competition. We may not wear the same jersey, but we can all enjoy the sport
with family and friends each week.

No matter what side of the aisle you’re on, everybody has a favorite college
team they’re rooting for on Saturdays.

While I’m absolutely biased as a University of Tennessee graduate, I have a
feeling we’re onto something this season! Best of luck to the team as they
prepare to take on Austin Peay this weekend—and as always—GO VOLS!
