Hello Neighbor, 

I hope you and your family are staying safe and adjusting well to the hustle and bustle of a new school year. My team and I returned to Lansing this week to continue our work moving Michigan forward and delivering for our neighbors across Downriver and Western Wayne. I wanted to take a moment to share some exciting news, as well as inform you of some events that will be taking place across District 4 this month.

Community Updates 

Earlier this week, I was proud to stand with State Rep. Churches, Congresswoman Dingell, Supervisor Budny and Wayne County officials as announced we were successful in securing $20 million for the Grosse Ile Free Bridge — helping with repairs and fortification that will keep it operational for years to come. As Grosse Ile’s voice in Lansing for the past six years, I know firsthand just how important it is that our neighbors have safe and reliable access to get on and off the island, and I was proud to advocate for this much-needed funding in Lansing. 

Senate Democrats’ End-of-Summer Recap 

Senate Democrats have been actively engaging with constituents over the summer recess, listening to their concerns and receiving feedback on the legislation they passed earlier this year. From knocking on doors to hosting coffee hours and town halls, they have been dedicated to understanding what matters most to Michigan residents.

Upcoming Events 

As we begin our fall legislative session, I want to make sure you that we provide ample opportunity for you to have your voice heard. We have a busy agenda planned through the end of the year, and I would love to chat with you about what direction you believe our state should take. Our Pop-up Constituent Service events are a great opportunity to meet my staff and receive answers to any questions you may have. If you are in need of assistance navigating a state department (unemployment, Medicaid, etc.) my staff is also available to help. 

The first of these events will be on September 11th from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Fresh Bean Coffee Co. in Southgate, and there will also be one on September 29th from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the Flat Rock Biggby. 

In addition, I will also be hosting a Coffee Hour in Belleville at Crafted Beanery on September 25th from 10:00-11:00 a.m. I’m excited to hear from my neighbors in Western Wayne, and we hope to see you there! 

Later that evening, I’ll be heading back over to Downriver to join Congresswoman Dingell and Rep. Churches for a Trenton Townhall at the Westfield Center from 6:00-7:00 p.m. This will be a great chance to hear updates at both the state and federal levels about what our legislative priorities are for the fall and hear from you about what you want to see from your representation in Lansing and Washington D.C.
