The Texas Music Office (TMO) announced the opening of applications for the?Texas Music Incubator Rebate (TMIR)?Program?signed into law by the Governor Greg Abbott in 2021. With $20.2 million in funding approved for the biennium in the 88th Regular Legislative Session, the TMIR Program will provide qualifying Texas music venues and festival promoters a full or partial rebate of certain taxes to help support the live music industry in communities across the state.?The first round of applications is open now through November 30.

Corpus Christi, having completed the multi-step certification process, was designated the 44th Music Friendly Texas Certified Community by the TMO on September 1, 2023. The Music Friendly Texas program, the first in the nation since introduced by TMO in 2016, seeks to foster music business-related economic development and job creation in Texas cities and communities. ?

The TMO and the Menard County Chamber of Commerce co-hosted a Music Friendly Texas Community workshop on Tuesday, August 29.?Participation in TMO?s Music Friendly Texas program, the first in the nation since introduced by TMO in 2016, provides Texas communities with a network for fostering music industry development and sends a clear message to industry professionals that certified communities are serious about attracting and developing music industry growth.?

The City of Linden, having completed the multi-step certification process, was designated the 43rd Music Friendly Texas Certified Community by the TMO on August 28, 2023. Since 1990, TMO has fostered the economic development of Texas music businesses, Texas musicians, and Texas communities.

The TMO and Downtown Weatherford, Inc. co-hosted a Music Friendly Texas Community workshop on Tuesday, August 22. The Weatherford workshop is the first step in the certification process. When completed, Weatherford will join 44 other Texas cities that have earned the Music Friendly Texas designation.

Texas Music Office Director Brendon Anthony Meets with Oklahoma Lt. Governor Matt Pinnell
TMO Director Brendon Anthony met with Oklahoma Lt. Governor Matt Pinnell to assist the State of Oklahoma in creating their own Music Office, modeled after the 33-year-old Texas Music Office, the only state music office in the nation. Director Anthony also participated in meetings with Lt. Governor Pinnell and a delegation from the Texas Chapter of the Recording Academy on behalf of the State of Texas.

The TMO and the City of Belton co-hosted a Music Friendly Texas Community workshop on Wednesday, August 16. TMO Community Relations and Outreach Specialist Chip Adams was in attendance to explain the Music Friendly Texas Community designation and the benefits of becoming certified and answer any questions.
