John,
Last week, we mourned a deadly, anti-Black attack in Jacksonville, Florida.
The Republican-led state government has spread dangerous anti-Black rhetoric and policies that led the NAACP to issue a travel advisory, warning that the state was “openly hostile toward African Americans, people of color and LGBTQ+ individuals.”
We can’t let fascist propagandists and policymakers scapegoat the most marginalized members of our communities and take away our rights.
In the face of right-wing, white supremacist attacks, we must urgently defend our neighbors and expand our rights.
One way to strengthen our country’s civil rights protections and expand the rights of millions of Americans is by passing the Justice For All Act of 2023.
This legislation would prohibit intentional and unintentional discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, disability, age, or national origin—like rejected loans, workplace discrimination, unfair car insurance rates, and racial profiling by the police.
It would help us fight back against anti-Black and anti-trans attacks by clarifying the definition of “race” to include race-related traits like hair texture, and clarifying the definition of “sex” to include sexual orientation, pregnancy, gender identity, sex stereotypes, or any sex-related traits.
The bill would also empower people to hold more institutions accountable for rights violations, including by eliminating qualified immunity for police officers and other government employees.
Add your name to support the Justice For All Act of 2023. Together, let’s create the equity and safety that our communities urgently deserve.
In service and solidarity,
Rashida
