John,
This is an emergency: During the pandemic, Congress required state Medicaid programs to keep people enrolled so Americans wouldn’t lose their health insurance during a once-in-a-century public health disaster.
Now, that prohibition is over, and tens of millions of people on Medicaid―including children―are poised to lose their health insurance. Here’s the worst part: Many of them still qualify for Medicaid, they simply missed their paperwork.
The health insurance industry calls these coverage losses “bureaucratic churn,” but every single one is a real person who needs health care to survive.
Sign our petition to President Biden: Direct the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to hold states accountable for sloppy health care purges!
President Biden has already urged states to slow their purges to avoid administrative errors, but there’s more that he can do. CMS has the power to monitor the process much more closely, and publicize which states are the biggest offenders of taking away health care from people in poverty.
Many of these states are run by politicians who are ideologically opposed to Medicaid in the first place, no matter how many Americans it helps. These same politicians decry Social Security and Medicare as well.
Tell the Biden Administration: Don’t let states break Medicaid’s promise!
Thank you,
Michael Phelan Social Security Works
