Oklahoma,

Congress is back in session after a productive work period. Let's jump back in. If this email was forwarded to you, you may subscribe to my e-newsletter here.

One size never fits all. Water treatment systems in Oklahoma look a lot different than those in urban areas like New York City and Los Angeles. While we can all agree we should implement policies that best ensure access to clean water for our constituents, we cannot implement policies that incentivize a backwards trajectory on our path to clean water access. This week, I participated in an Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee hearing to discuss the best path forward for drinking water access and the Drinking Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Act.

Higher education is a choice. There is no reason hard working Oklahomans should have to assume the debts of those who willingly took out student loans, knowing they have to be paid back. In June, the Supreme Court ruled that Joe Biden's cheap political scheme to transfer the financial burden of student loans to millions of hard-working taxpayers was an abuse of executive power. Now, Joe Biden is making another attempt. The Biden administration's new plan will cost taxpayers nearly $600 billion. I've joined my Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee colleagues in fighting against the administration and protecting the overwhelming majority of Americans who do not have student loans or have already paid theirs back.

Our firefighters embody the Oklahoma Standard every day as they show up to work willing to risk their lives for the safety of their neighbors. Mustang’s new fire station opened in June, dramatically reducing emergency response times on the east side of the city. This is great news for the residents of Mustang and those visiting the area. Thank you to Fire Chief Craig Carruth, Battalion Chief Jonathan Sprague, and Mayor Brian Grider for a tour of the new station and for your efforts in keeping Mustang safe and prosperous.

I had a productive morning at Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU), learning more about their health care program as they train up the next generation of medical professionals. We discussed their efforts towards meeting the workforce demand and addressing the unique issues facing rural Oklahoma. Thank you to Diane Lovell, President of SWOSU, Joe Kendall, VP for Academic Affairs, Adam Johnson, VP for Student Services, and Les Ramos, Dean of SWOSU College of Pharmacy for your time.

As your Senator, it's vital to hear directly from you on the issues facing you and your families. Last week, I had the opportunity to join leaders and community members in Yukon and Mustang to discuss priorities in Oklahoma and provide an update from Washington, D.C. We discussed issues the rural workforce is facing, as well as the agriculture sector and upcoming Farm Bill. Thank you to Yukon and Mustang Mayors Shelli Selby and Brian Grider, and all those who came out to make it a great event.

While back in Washington this week, I sat down with News on 6 to discuss the August work period back in the state. Team Mullin had an incredibly productive month, meeting with constituents, business owners, and leaders who are striving everyday to make their communities a better place. You can check out the recap here.
