This summer we've witnessed an unending string of climate disasters — record breaking heat waves, suffocating wildfire smoke, and deadly storms. The evidence is crystal clear that we’re in the midst of a dire climate emergency. Now, the Biden Administration needs to go even further and use the same executive powers to establish a Civilian Climate Corps and declare a climate emergency.

By declaring a climate emergency, Biden can unlock the full spectrum of his executive authority, to combat the climate crisis including:

• Freeing up millions in relief for communities hurting from climate disasters,
• Allocating funding to building cleaner energy systems, resilient infrastructure, affordable housing, and good and efficient transit,
• Halting crude oil exports and stopping oil and gas drilling, and more.

This victory in Alaska’s Arctic Refuge is a testament to the hard work the climate movement has been fighting towards. If we continue to speak up, they have no option but to listen. And we won’t stop until we win the fossil-free future we deserve.
