Preserving Oheyawahe
In May 2023, Governor Tim Walz approved a capital investment funding allocation of $1.85 million to the City for improvements at Oheyawahe, a site in Mendota Heights on the National Register of Historic Places, considered sacred by Dakota people.

Residents Asked to Use Odd/Even Watering Schedule
As of August 29, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) shows nearly the entire state is abnormally dry and the Twin Cities is in severe drought.
Saint Paul Regional Water Services requests customers cooperation in adhering to recommended outdoor watering schedules during the current drought conditions.

Tree of the Month: Swamp White Oak
Swamp White Oaks make up .7% of the total Tree Canopy Area in Mendota Heights (Mendota Heights Natural Resources Management Plan, 2022). The native range of the Swamp White Oak extended from Quebec west to Minnesota and south to the southeastern United States. In Minnesota, it is a species of special concern.

Get items fixed or mended for free and learn useful repair skills.

Cycles and Cider: Bike Fix-it Clinic
Sept. 20; 5:30-6:30 p.m. Market Square Park
Give your bike a check-up before the end of the season, and pick up an apple cider for yourself, at this free fix-it clinic. Fixers will be available to address minor issues and diagnose bigger ones.

Have you ever wondered what happens to your recycling after it leaves your home? Come on this tour of Eureka Recycling to see how our single-stream recycling is sorted by material before being shipped to end markets to be made into new products. Attendees will see the sorting process and learn about recycling best practices in the Twin Cities. Free event; registration required.

Volunteer Opportunity: Tree Planting
The City of Mendota Heights offers a variety of opportunities for residents to volunteer, get involved and contribute to the community!
Volunteers (5-10 people) are needed for a tree planting event Thursday, Oct. 5, 3:30-6:30 p.m. at Friendly Hills Park.

Recycle large appliances curbside! Cost: $25/first appliance, $10 each additional appliance.
Reservations are required.
