We all know how slowly the legislature can act, and when your community is in the middle of an emergency, there’s no time for political posturing and lengthy floor debates.
Take action now, and let your legislator know this is a terrible idea!
This proposal will not only bog down Wisconsin’s ability to act quickly, but it could be a backdoor effort to undermine funding from big federal legislative packages like President Biden’s Affordable Clean Energy Plan and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Wisconsin is set to receive historic investments from these laws that will help communities develop more clean energy projects, replace lead pipes, upgrade drinking water systems to remove PFAS chemicals, and so much more. Efforts by legislators to try and modify or delay federal funding packages means those funds could be taken away or lost due to delay. Wisconsin communities could lose out to other states who are able to act quickly.
We need you to take action quickly!
This coming Tuesday, Sept. 12, the Wisconsin Assembly is set to vote on Assembly Joint Resolution 6, a constitutional amendment that would eliminate the governor’s ability to quickly distribute federal funding. This could delay clean energy and safe drinking water investments and undermine the governor’s ability to respond to emergencies, all by concentrating even more power in the hands of our slow-moving, gerrymandered legislature.
We need to ensure that every legislator knows the consequences of this. Email your legislators and ask them to oppose Assembly Joint Resolution 6.
