Hello, Friend!
TOMORROW! 🏗️ From the Port to warehouses: Learn about the supply chain in SoCal! 📦 **NOTE LOCATION CHANGE**
From the Port of LA and Long Beach to the endless warehouses of the Inland Empire, the supply chain in Southern California is fundamental to the U.S. economy — and a huge site of labor organizing and militancy. UPS, Amazon and port truck drivers are just some of the worker struggles we’ve been following across the Southland over the past few years. As socialists, we must develop how we approach this critical artery in global capitalism — and we must work together across chapters in SoCal to do so!
On Saturday, September 9th, join DSA-LA with our neighboring chapters DSA Long Beach and Inland Empire DSA for the first ever regionally-coordinated Day School, Delivering the Goods: A Socialist Day School on Logistics. We see this project as not just a political education event, but an opportunity to bring our chapters closer together so we can make more impactful, meaningful political interventions across Southern California. Click here to RSVP!
Please note that we have changed the venue from Los Angeles City College to Immanuel Presbyterian Church!
Immanuel Presbyterian Church is on 3300 Wilshire Blvd in Koreatown. It is about ten minutes away by car from Los Angeles City College, and two stops on the LA Metro. We hope that this location provides a close enough alternative that will not inconvenience you too much.
In addition, here's just a few logistical details (no pun intended) we'd like to share beforehand:
📍How do I get there? Immanuel Presbyterian Church has limited parking, and there is limited metered parking along nearby streets. If possible we recommend using LA Metro in order to arrive, as the church is located just a handful of blocks away from the Wilshire/Vermont Metro station.
SUNDAY! 🗳️ The 2024 election season has begun, and so has our endorsement process! 🤔
DSA-LA is now considering three candidates for the chapter’s phase 1 endorsements in the 2024 primary election: Ysabel Jurado for Los Angeles City Council District 14, Nithya Raman for Los Angeles City Council District 4, and Jillian Burgos for Los Angeles City Council District 2. On September 10th at 12PM on Zoom, our chapter will host our first electoral endorsement forum! This will be the chance for our members to meet the candidates and discuss potential endorsements.
The meeting will begin with introductions from and open Q&A with the candidates. Following the Q&A, we will take a short break before transitioning to a closed deliberation session of the DSA-LA Membership. In the closed session, the Electoral Committee will present summary briefings on the races and districts, make a recommendation on endorsement, and DSA-LA members in good standing will debate reasons for or against supporting these candidates. All members will receive a ballot for consideration following the forum! Dues-paying DSA-LA members can access the candidate questionnaires on our member discussion board here. If you cannot attend the forum, you may submit questions for the candidates using this form.
You can more about DSA-LA's endorsement process here. As an important reminder, only dues paying members can participate in our endorsement process. You can check your membership status here, or join to become a member today!
Solidarity forever!
