Dominic's Constituency Newsletter
John xxxxxx,
Since my last update, I have been out in the constituency visiting more of our excellent community centres, offering my support to the dedicated community groups that run them.
In a further boost to our communities, this week, the government announced that so-called laughing gas - or nitrous oxide - will be made illegal to possess for recreational use. More on this and our plan to tackle antisocial behaviour below.
Construction of a new footbridge at Walton station entered a key phase this week, with the installation of the footbridge itself set to be completed this Sunday.
Over the summer, PA Housing agreed to introducing a new Residents' Charter to set new minimum levels of service for residents. I have been working closely with PA to improve improve outcomes for their tenants.
As ever, if you are a constituent in need of my assistance, please do not hesitate to get in touch using the details at the end of this email.
Yours sincerely,
Dominic

Catching up with Lower Green Community Centre
Thank you to Jenny French, Community Projects Lead, and Amanda Manship, Chair of Trustees, for the warm welcome at Lower Green Community Centre yesterday.
It was great to catch up on the ongoing improvements at the centre, including new flowers planted by volunteers at the entrance, and hear about their exciting plans for the future.
The Beehive Community Hub is open at Lower Green Community Centre between Monday and Thursday each week, for help and support or just a cup of tea and a chat. More information on what’s on at Lower Green Community Centre below:

Nitrous Oxide to be illegal by the end of 2023.
As part of this Conservative government’s Anti-Social Behaviour Plan, those in unlawful possession of nitrous oxide could face up to two years in prison, or an unlimited fine.
Nitrous Oxide, otherwise known as laughing gas, is one of the most commonly used recreational drugs by 16 to 24-year-olds. Not only can laughing gas result in serious health consequences, but the harms are also felt acutely in our communities from littering of discarded canisters to drug driving.
Whilst there are legitimate uses for nitrous oxide in many sectors, including medical, industrial and catering, it is important that those using nitrous oxide for legitimate purposes can do so lawfully and without undue burdens.
As part of Our Plan, we are making the streets of Esher and Walton constituency safer.
Installation of footbridge with lifts at Walton Station
Our Plan for Esher and Walton constituency includes improving local transport and increasing accessibility at local train stations. You may be aware that works are currently underway to install a new footbridge with lifts at Walton Station, funded by the Government’s £390 million ‘Access for All’ scheme.
The next milestone for the project – installation of the new footbridge – is planned from Saturday 2 September to Sunday 10 September.
There will be some unavoidable disruption over these two weekends whilst the bridge is being installed:
* 9 September – 10 September
* 07:30 Saturday – 20:00 Sunday
* Station Avenue will have a lane closure and temporary traffic lights
A full diversion route has been set up over this period.
PA Housing commit to introducing a New Residents’ Charter
Following our campaign to improve PA Housing services across Elmbridge, the Conservative group on Elmbridge Borough Council recently put forward a motion to negotiate a new tenants’ charter for all Elmbridge PA Housing residents with clear minimum expectations.
Subsequent to this, PA Housing have confirmed they will be introducing a new residents’ charter by March 2024. As part of the process, PA Housing have committed to consulting with their tenants in Elmbridge.
This is good news going forward to ensure better quality of services residents receive from PA Housing, whilst also ensuring all tenants are aware of the minimum standards on issues such as maximum repair waiting times and housing quality standards.
If you are a PA Housing tenant experiencing problems in your home, please reach out to me using the details below so I may raise your experience with PA Housing directly on your behalf.
State of the Nation
Revised data show that the UK grew more than previously thought following the Covid-19 pandemic.
* ONS revises economic figures: On 01 September, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) published revised figures on growth in the UK economy since the Covid-19 pandemic. This new data show that the economy grew at the third fastest rate in the G7, behind only Canada and the United States. The UK has consistently grown faster than Italy, France and Germany since 2010.
* UK enters the Horizon scheme: The government has negotiated new terms for the UK's membership of the Horizon research scheme, giving our globally-renowned scientists and research institutions access to research and innovation funding, while providing better value for the British taxpayer than in the past.
