CREW is a small watchdog group — we’re a team of 40 of the most gifted, creative and tenacious people I have ever met. Among us are lawyers, researchers, public policy experts, communications professionals, and dedicated operations professionals who keep it all going. It is an extraordinary group of people who have now dedicated their careers to the protection of American democracy. We take on big fights and routinely are noted for punching far above our weight.

This week, we took on our biggest fight yet: We sued in Colorado to keep Donald Trump from holding office ever again.

Section 3 of the 14th Amendment makes clear that if you swear an oath to uphold the Constitution, and then engage in rebellion or insurrection against the government, you are not qualified to hold any public office—much less the presidency. That’s exactly what Donald Trump did in the months before the insurrection and on January 6th.

We know that Donald Trump is capable of inciting violence and we have seen the terrifying consequences of what happens when he is unhappy with the results of a free and fair election.

It’s terrifying to think that such violence could end our country’s history of democratic governance.

And it’s terrifying to contemplate the prospect of stepping forward to stand in his way by acting to enforce Trump’s disqualification.

But seeing the facts and the law — and the immense peril facing our democracy, we had little choice but to act.

We painstakingly prepared evidence and precedent to make our case, but not only that, we worked hard to marshal the resources we needed to take on this fight. As the Chief Operating Officer of CREW, my job is to make sure that we have what we need: a solid operational apparatus that is nimble and able to adjust as our litigation evolves, the right team to take on the case and win, and crucially, the money to pay for this enormous undertaking.

That’s where you come in: Our team is small, but with help from grassroots supporters like you, we can have a huge impact.
