Hi John,
September always brings up thoughts of school starting and what topics will be addressed in classrooms around the world this year. With sexual and reproductive health education being constantly policed and politicized, young people are often receiving incomplete and inaccurate information about their sexual lives and health. Our latest webinar, “Sex Ed for Young People” addresses how to provide age-appropriate information about all things sex ed to the young people in your life.

The Battle Against Abortion Stigma
Abortion is unstoppable, and we must normalize and improve access. We know that access to abortion is popular and having abortions is common, but it still a topic that is shrouded in shame for too many.
Abortion is not a bad word; people should be proud to share their abortion stories. Abortion should never be relegated to a secrecy if we are willing to tackle abortion stigma.

Self-care is an intentional practice that roots us in the present despite the oppression we may face. Regular self-care is essential for sustainable and effective activism.
Here are our self-care tips for September:
Embrace quiet! I am more often than not listening to something, whether it's an audiobook or podcast, a phone call I'm pretending is a podcast, background TV shows, or music. Sometimes it can help keep calm and add interest to a chore, but other times it's numbing my brain fog in ways that aren't always helpful. I've tried lately to welcome silence as a part of my day, like while doing housework or walking my dog, and it helps me be more present and less distracted! – Shireen, Deputy Director
Make playlists for focusing and relaxing! I like to have different playlists or lofi mixes I listen to in different situations to mark what I’m doing. I have a few for when I’m doing work that I associate with focusing and getting things done, and many more chill ones for when I’m just trying to wind down. Even if there is song overlap between them, it helps to separate work and play. This is my favorite lofi mix for work and this is my go-to relax playlist. – Negar, Senior Research Analyst
Call a long-distance friend! Often when I feel too caught up in my own life, thoughts, and problems, calling a long-distance friend can be a much-needed breath of fresh air. They always offer a new perspective and have fun new memories to update you on, happy calling! – Laila, DC Organizer
