Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan kicked off the back-to-school season by?welcoming students and celebrating the new free school meals program providing free breakfast and lunch for Minnesota students. Families are set to save thousands on school breakfast and lunch costs this year from the new program.
Governor Walz visited schools in Bloomington and Rochester, jumping back into bus duty and dishing out lunch to celebrate free school meals.
Lieutenant Governor Flanagan visited with students at schools in Columbia Heights and White Bear Lake.?
The Lieutenant Governor also joined MPR?s Angela Davis to discuss the free meals program and highlighted free school meals in a Star Tribune op-ed: The extra helping of joy in school?s 2023 start.
On Monday, Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan celebrated Labor Day.?
"In Minnesota, we?re ensuring paid leave, prohibiting non-compete clauses, and making our workplaces safer. Because when our working families are strong, Minnesota is strong," said Governor Walz. "Happy Labor Day, Minnesota."
"I?m grateful for the determination of those who came before us, like my great grandfather, who fought like hell for workers? rights and the right to organize," said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan. "Today, we reaffirm our commitment to working people and acknowledge that the fight is never done. Happy Labor Day!"
Governor Walz's daughter, Hope, convinced Governor Walz to try the most extreme ride at the?Minnesota State Fair.?
