Hi John,

Your favorite award-winning podcast is back! This season we’re looking at democracy at the state and local levels and how we can better protect the right of all citizens to have their voices heard. In episode one, I share my own story about how I got involved with democracy issues in my hometown and saw the importance of state and local elections firsthand.

You’ll hear from CLC’s Paul Smith about pro-democracy reforms happening at the state and local level around the country. I also talk to Alex Gulotta from All Voting is Local and Jawharrah Bahar of Free Hearts about their efforts to expand the freedom to vote.

Headshot of the Democracy Decoded podcast host, Simone Leeper.
My name is Simone Leeper, and I'm the host of "Democracy Decoded." In our podcast series, I chat about democracy with different experts and take a deep dive into the forces that shape our elections. When I’m not hosting this podcast, I litigate a wide range of redistricting-related cases in my role at CLC. I challenge gerrymandered maps and advocate for election systems that guarantee all voters an equal opportunity to be represented in our democracy.
Make sure you subscribe to hear each episode as soon as it drops each Thursday morning. If you can't get enough, you can re-listen to and share Season 1 and 2 on DemocracyDecoded.org or on your favorite podcast hosting platform today!

We're very excited to be continuing this podcast for another season and are extremely grateful for the interest and support we’ve received so far.

Recently, Democracy Decoded was featured at Podcast Movement, the world’s largest podcast conference. Thanks to California Common Cause for organizing the panel, Podcast Movement for recognizing our efforts and Casey Atkins for presenting.
Panelists Maya Chupkov, Casey Atkins, Cara Ongwhaley, and Jenna Spinelle are seated in front a screen to present at the Podcast Movement Conference held in Denver, Colorado.
Most importantly, I’m very grateful for the support of our listeners like you. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to present innovative ideas for a stronger, more transparent, accountable and inclusive democracy.

We hope you enjoy Season 3!
Sincerely,

Simone Leeper
