NAFCU offers support for bill to make homebuying more affordable

NAFCU Vice President of Legislative Affairs Brad Thaler sent letters to the House and Senate Thursday in support of the bipartisan Homes for Every Local Protector, Educator, and Responder (HELPER) Act. The legislation would create a home loan program for first-time homebuyers within the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) to make homeownership more affordable for law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, and preK-12 teachers.

CFPB releases report on big tech in mobile payments

The CFPB Thursday released a report highlighting the impact Apple and Google have on the mobile payment ecosystem. According to the report, “restrictions imposed by the dominant operating systems – Apple’s iOS operating system and Google’s Android operating system – will have an outsized effect on access to payments systems and may hinder the development of a truly open ecosystem.”

CUs see assets, lending rise in Q2

Federally-insured credit unions (FICUs) saw a rise in total assets, outstanding loans, and membership during the second quarter of 2023, according to NCUA call report data. NCUA Chairman Todd Harper acknowledged the credit union industry is “generally well positioned,” but cautioned credit unions to stay alert because of the “rise in delinquency rates and charge offs and a slight decline in insured shares.”

CUs: Join movement to access Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund grants

NAFCU Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Ann Petros Thursday alerted credit unions to the opportunity to participate in the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) via a partnership between NAFCU and Ecority, an independent nonprofit established to leverage and scale the $27 billion EPA-administered GGRF, in new posts on the NAFCU Networks.

NCUA hosting consumer compliance webinar

The NCUA announced it is hosting a webinar Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. Eastern to discuss “a range of consumer compliance and fair lending topics.”
