Fulton County District Attorney Sends Letter to Rep. Jim Jordan for Investigating Her Prosecution of Donald Trump

Insider: Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis told GOP Rep. Jim Jordan that he lacked “a basic understanding of the law, its practice, and the ethical obligations of attorneys generally and prosecutors specifically” after he sent her a letter in late August “demanding information and communications” and helped start a congressional inquiry of her prosecution against former President Donald Trump. In a letter obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution dated September 7, Willis officially issued her response to Jordan, telling him that he and Congress have no constitutional authority to “interfere” or obstruct her office’s prosecution (Insider). Washington Examiner: She made a number of points similar to those Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg had made to Jordan in March about his prosecution of Trump, saying Jordan was abusing his congressional power by inquiring about Georgia criminal matters. Jordan said there are several points of federal interest in the case, including how it relates to the Constitution’s Supremacy Clause; how it affects Trump, who has federal benefits because of his presidency, such as Secret Service; how it affects and will potentially interfere with the 2024 presidential election, in which Trump is the 2024 GOP front-runner; how Willis’s office has used federal funds; and how she may have coordinated with special counsel Jack Smith (Washington Examiner).

NYC Schools Overwhelmed by 21,000 Immigrant Children Seeking Education
New York Post: The first day of classes kicked off in New York City on Thursday as schools grapple with the influx of migrant students, with some buildings turning away kids as 21,000 children seeking asylum inundated already jam-packed classrooms. The line to get inside Newcomers High School in Long Island City stretched around the block early Thursday as frustrated teachers vented that the building had already hit capacity, pushing students at Gotham — a different school inside the building — to a facility across the street (New York Post). Daily Wire: Education Chancellor David C. Banks voiced his excitement for welcoming the illegal immigrant children into schools Thursday. “We are welcoming all these new migrant students into our schools with open arms,” Banks said Thursday at an opening ceremony at a Bronx public school. “We know it’s a larger political issue and the mayor and others have to deal with. But when they show up in our schools, they’re going to get the best that we have” (Daily Wire).

NYC Mayor Eric Adams Gets Pretty Close to Admitting Defeat on Immigration Issue
National Review: Mayor Eric Adams issued his most dire warning yet about the consequences of the migrant crisis in the Big Apple on Wednesday, telling New Yorkers that the ongoing influx “will destroy New York City.” New York City has received more than 100,000 illegal immigrants since the spring, when border states began busing migrants to blue “sanctuary cities” which have committed to providing shelter and social services to all individuals regardless of immigration status. At a town hall meeting in Manhattan, Adams said New York City is receiving 10,000 migrants per month (National Review). Journalist Nycphotog: Mayor Adams basically conceding New York City is done because of illegal immigration and warns New Yorkers illegals will flood ALL neighborhoods (Twitter).

White House Withdraws Nominee for Energy Department Opening Due to Spat with Sen. Joe Manchin on Gas Stoves
Bloomberg: The White House withdrew its nominee for an Energy Department posting, ending a months-long standoff and handing a win to Senator Joe Manchin, who has protested the agency’s plans to regulate gas stoves. Jeff Marootian’s nomination to be assistant secretary of the Energy Department’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy had been stalled since May, when Manchin, who chairs the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, scrubbed a committee vote. At the time, Manchin argued he was “not comfortable moving forward” with Marootian, who had been tapped to lead the Energy Department division spearheading the stove energy-efficiency rule that the senator opposed (Bloomberg).

The rating is the lowest CNN recorded for Biden this year, down from 41 percent in July and 45 percent in January (Hill). Woke, Elite Residents of Chicago to Take Part in a “Poverty Simulation” at a Country Club
Julio Rosas: Residents in Highland Park, a suburb to the north of Chicago, to attend a “poverty simulation” put on by Alliance for Human Services to increase “understanding and awareness of what it feels like to live in poverty in Lake County.” While such a “simulation” raised enough eyebrows it was the location that really grabbed people’s attention. For two and half hours, people will be able to pretend to be in the lower class at the Highland Park Country Club (Townhall). Libs of TikTok: The City of Highland Park in Illinois is holding a “poverty simulation event” where woke rich people will pretend to be poor for 2.5 hours while sitting in a comfortable country club. You can’t make this up (Twitter).

Walmart Adjusts Pay for New Hires as Labor Market Eases
Wall Street Journal: Walmart is paying some new store workers less than it would have three months ago, a sign that employers are seeking to cut labor costs as the once-hot market for hourly staff cools. The country’s largest private employer changed its wage structure for hourly workers in mid-July, according to documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal and Walmart employees. Under the new structure, most new hires will earn the lowest possible hourly wage for that store. In the past, some new hires, such as those who collect items for online orders, would have made slightly more than other new staff members, such as cashiers. The wage-structure change comes after Walmart and other large employers have for years steadily raised wages and added benefits to attract workers in a tight labor market. The retailer’s latest move suggests that the stresses companies are facing in trying to find employees are easing and that they need to find ways to offset those wage increase (Wall Street Journal). CNBC: Walmart, as the biggest private employer in the U.S. with 1.6 million people, is a closely watched company for economists and industry leaders — including many who have scoured for signs of whether inflation of wages and of merchandise is cooling. It had hiked its minimum wage for store employees from $12 to $14 in January (CNBC).

Trans Inmates Sexually Assault Others While in Prison
Townhall: A female inmate at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility in New Jersey filed a lawsuit claiming that she was sexually assaulted by a biological male “transgender” inmate. Reportedly, the female prisoner has been locked up at the facility since 2003. She alleges she was sexually assaulted in September and October last year. Her lawsuit against the New Jersey Department of Corrections surrounds the alleged “lack of action” by prison guards about the “sexually aggressive” and “harassing” behaviors from biological male inmates masquerading as “transgender women” (Townhall). This happens overseas as well. Daily Wire: A 27-year-old transgender inmate who was locked up for sexually assaulting a nurse has admitted to groping two prison guards, one male and one female. Katana Paris, who is biologically male but identifies as a woman and uses female pronouns, was sentenced to 37 months behind bars for pulling a nurse towards his genitals while in a hospital. Paris is serving his sentence at HM Prison Forest Bank, a men’s private prison near Manchester, England. Paris, who admitted to the two counts of sexual assault, was handed down an additional six-month sentence (Daily Wire).

Portland City Council Votes to Ban Use of Hard Drugs in Public Places
National Review: To send a message to residents and state lawmakers amid a spiraling drug crisis and rampant homelessness, the city council in Portland, Ore., voted unanimously Wednesday to approve an emergency ordinance banning the use of hard drugs in public. The emergency ordinance amends the city code that already prohibits the open consumption of alcohol and marijuana in places like public parks and on sidewalks to also include hard drugs like heroin, fentanyl, and methamphetamines. But the vote was mostly symbolic because of Measure 110, the ballot initiative approved by voters in 2020 that decriminalized user amounts of street drugs, like heroin, fentanyl, and methamphetamines, and that forbids local governments from regulating their use. State lawmakers would have to change the law for Portland to act on its ordinance (National Review). Mark Hemingway: The fact that hard drug use was ever decriminalized is bonkers, and Oregonians should be ashamed of themselves for letting it happen. “Portland City Council Approves Emergency Ordinance Banning Public Hard-Drug Use” (Twitter).
