Dear John,
Summer is normally a quiet time for Texas politics, but this has not been a normal summer.
We’ve already had two special sessions, both on property taxes. And due to the Legislature’s failure to pass school finance legislation during the regular session, we’ll be having another special session soon.
But before that can happen, the Senate must complete the impeachment trial of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, which began earlier this week. (I will not speak about the trial while it is proceeding, save to say here only that I’ve sworn an oath to consider the evidence and arguments as an impartial member of the court, and will honor that oath.)
Meanwhile there’s been no post-session pause, so rather than wait for one I made a short video summarizing the session, to provide you some idea of where we’ve been, what we’ve done, and what remains to be done. If you haven’t seen it yet, please take a minute to watch it here:
