This is not only a threat to our privacy but to our democracy.

We’re pushing for Congress to pass legislation that will:  

• Require social media and technology companies to set privacy settings to the highest level of privacy by default.
• Require social media and technology companies to design their platforms with children's safety and privacy at the forefront.
• Prevent companies from collecting unnecessary data from children, tracking their location, or selling their data.
• Hold social media and technology companies liable for harm caused to children, including large fines.
• Require social media companies to remove recommended posts that users did not opt into from their feeds and prevent posts that promote suicide, eating disorders, and substance abuse.
• Ensure all social media and technology companies are held to the same standard regarding protections.
• Give people agency and ownership of their data.
• Invest in new tech that empowers people over big tech companies and optimizes for democracy and the public good.
