Mikie Sherrill :: U.S. Congress

I am heartbroken -- the back-to-back mass shootings in Texas and Ohio this past weekend together killed over 30 people and injured dozens more. They happened within 24 hours of each other, and the gunfire lasted less than a minute.

We can't live like this.

We can't live in the type of country where a 23-year-old father and a 25-year-old mother die trying to protect their 2-month-old baby from gunfire. But that's precisely what happened in El Paso on Saturday.

We don't have to live like this.

After I entered Congress, the first bill I co-sponsored was a bipartisan plan to expand background checks and prevent gun violence. It's been nearly six months since then, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell still hasn't taken it up despite the fact that 90% of Americans support it.

Gun violence requires more than thoughts and prayers. It requires policy. I'm calling on the Senate to take action now.

If you are able, please consider making a donation to help victims in El Paso and Dayton by donating to the El Paso Victims' Fund and the Dayton Foundation. And in the coming days, months, or however long it takes, join me in raising your voice and demanding action on gun violence.

Thank you,

Mikie
