But now it's a stark reality we can't ignore.

In a recent TV interview, I mentioned how rapidly evolving AI technology, like ChatGPT, could become a powerful tool for generating deceptive election content.

Election officials nationwide, myself included, are increasingly alarmed by the potential misuse of this technology. It can create highly convincing images and videos that blur the lines between reality and fiction, posing a significant risk to our electoral process.

Despite recent legislative efforts to combat technology-driven disinformation, we anticipate that this threat will only intensify as we approach the 2024 presidential election. It's a sobering fact that we have to confront.

One of my greatest concerns is the proliferation of “deepfakes,” AI-generated content that can depict fictional events or manipulate images to appear as though individuals are saying things they never did. Even people with a discerning eye can struggle to distinguish these fabrications from reality.

What makes this particularly dangerous is that it erodes our very sense of reality and truth, which is the foundation of our democracy.
