Fall Into Action: Your Guide to Hosting Your Own Voter Registration Drive

As your resident When We All Vote (we thought you should see this) expert, how could I not provide you with all the things you need to help us register voters this fall? With When We All Vote’s National Voter Registration Week of Action [[link removed]] from September 18-24 just around the corner, I have the perfect activity for you to get in on all the fun. Follow our How to Host a Voter Registration Drive guide below to get started.

GETTING STARTED – LET’S MAKE A PLAN:

When you sign up to host a voter registration event in your community, here are the three main things you need to consider:

→ PLAN: Decide where and when you’ll host your voter registration drive.

→ CREATE AN EVENT LINK: Register your event with When We All Vote’s online tool at weall.vote/nvrw [[link removed]] so our team can follow up with you, help answer your questions, and track our impact.

→GET TO WORK: Help people complete their voter registrations during your voter registration drive using our online portal at weall.vote/check [[link removed]].

NEXT, DECIDE WHERE AND WHEN YOU WANT TO REGISTER VOTERS:

Consider high-traffic areas in your community, like:

→ PLACES OF WORSHIP: Register voters after services.

→ SCHOOLS: Ask administrators if you can set up a table in a high-traffic area.

→ LAUNDROMATS OR GROCERY STORES: Ask the business if you can set up a table out front.

→ COMMUNITY FARMERS MARKETS: Ask the organizers if you can set up a table.

DON’T FORGET: REGISTER YOUR EVENT WITH WHEN WE ALL VOTE:

Once you know where and when you want to host your drive, you can make it official by using When We All Vote’s digital tool to create an event link and register your event at weall.vote/nvrw [[link removed]]. We’ll get all the details organized in one easy-to-share link, and help with event promotion. In order to create a digital event link, you’ll need to have the following details:

→ EVENT NAME: Be creative, the name of the event is how you grab attention.

→ EVENT DESCRIPTION: Let people know what to expect at your event.

→ SELECT: PUBLIC OR PRIVATE: Do you want your event link to be accessible to all, or just those you invite?

→ SELECT: IN-PERSON OR VIRTUAL EVENT

→ LOCATION
For in-person events: Where will you be?

→ TIME, EVENT CONTACT INFORMATION, AND ACCESSIBILITY
For in-person events: Is the location wheelchair accessible?
For virtual events: Will there be captions?

TIPS AND TRICKS FOR YOUR VOTER EVENT

→ Make sure you greet people, smile, and use open and friendly body language to start conversations.

→ Be patient, but persistent: A helpful tip is to ask a question when your impulse is to say a statement. Don’t assume you understand why someone is expressing disinterest or apprehension, have a nonjudgemental approach and share stories to humanize the conversation.

→ Be nonpartisan and don’t provide any incentives to register to vote. We’re NOT asking people to vote for a particular candidate or issue — we just want them to vote. Now that you’re all set on how to set up your voter registration drive, join me for When We All Vote’s Voter Registration Week of Action from September 18-24th. >>> [[link removed]]
