Greetings, OPEIU members, staff and leaders!
At the 29th OPEIU Convention, delegates from all over the country gathered in Philadelphia, Pa. to conduct the business of the union. Of course, the convention experience includes the opportunity to learn, grow, and celebrate together, and the union took special care this year to create an environment of inclusion and belonging in order to foster a strong sense of community.
Part of that intentionality was the product of a newly formed steering committee, appointed to collaborate with the Cornell University Worker Institute to conduct an organization-wide assessment of the union's culture around diversity, equity, inclusion and racial and social justice. This has been no small feat, but the dedication and passion of that steering committee has helped shape a multi-phased process for collecting data about the union from its own membership and staff.
This email is part of the survey phase, which will be launching this week. As convention attendees who signed up to remain connected to the work of the DEIJ steering committee, you are receiving a special invitation to participat in (and share) this survey.
That brings us to our ask of you today --
The Cornell Worker Institute team and your DEIJ steering committee are asking that you complete this important survey (also linked below) at your earliest convenience. This survey is 100 percent anonymous and does not collect or record any identifiable information. The survey may take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the detail of your responses.
We know that this is no small ask, so at the end of the survey, you may opt into a raffle to win a thank you gift from OPEIU for taking the time to provide your input. If you opt into the raffle, you will be able to submit your survey response and be redirected to a separate sign-up form to enter your information. It can, in no way, be traced back to your survey responses. Your survey will remain completely anonymous whether you enter the raffle or not.
As we roll this survey out, we would greatly appreciate your help in promoting it to your peers and siblings in the union. We appreciate the initial step you took to sign up at the convention to remain informed about this effort, and look to you as a key ally in this work.
If you have any questions or concerns about this message and/or the survey, you may email [email protected].
In solidarity,
The Worker Institute, Labor Leadership Programs
Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations
