Communicating to Parents about Minors' Rights for Sexual Health Services

This webinar focuses on parents/caregivers and increasing their knowledge and understanding of minors' rights to sexual health services. Content will outline strategies to share information with parents/caregivers of their child’s right to sexual health services, what 1:1 confidential care between a provider and child is, and ways for parents to support their child in accessing care.

Participants will hear from Dr. Ryan Pasternak and Dr. Marian Larkin who will share their experience of navigating conversations about minors rights with parents/caregivers. Participants will leave with ideas and resources to hold their own parent/caregiver education session on minors rights to sexual health services.

Resource Guide for Texas ISDs 

In 2020, the State Board of Education revised the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Health Education for the first time since the 1990s, fundamentally changing the map for adolescent health in the state. In 2021, the 87th Texas Legislature made significant changes to the statute that guides sex education, resulting in new requirements for school districts and school health advisory councils across the state.
