Dear John,

I’m running for Mayor of San Francisco because I know we cannot afford to wait any longer to turn this city around. But do to that we must do two things:

First, we need to end brazen crime and the sense of lawlessness. Brazen retail thefts occur every day, scaring customers and frontline workers, forcing small businesses to close, and in one recent tragic incident even leading to the death of a beloved shopkeeper. Our District Attorney asked for funding for a dedicated prosecutor in her office to go after retail thieves, but our current Mayor ignored that request and left the position out of her budget. When I am elected Mayor, funding such a position will be one of my top priorities.

Second, we must reinvigorate our downtown core. One of the best ways to do that, and one that many other world class cities like London, New York, and Boston employ, is to locate universities downtown. The students flocking to these campuses bring energy and money that can buoy existing small businesses, allow new ones to open, and make our streets safer and livelier. That is why I am proposing legislation that will allow us to easily convert empty commercial buildings downtown into college campuses.

But in order to win next November I need your help. Can I count on you to make a contribution to our change-driven campaign today?
