Back to School with IGNITE

Over these next few weeks we will be sharing stories of IGNITE participants in action on campuses across the country. First up, meet Isabella Fuentes, our Dr. Anne Moses IGNITE Fellow in North Texas who mobilized her college peers to take action against book bans. Make a gift today and help leaders like Isabella take action on college campuses across the country.

Dear John,

Any single action I take has the potential to profoundly impact the lives of others. This is a responsibility I don’t take lightly.

Book bans have a disastrous impact on students. Books inspire our creativity and expand our knowledge. That’s why along with students at TCU and Collin College last spring we tackled the mass book banning happening in Texas. We educated our community, and specifically elected officials across North Texas, so that they were fully informed of the ramifications of book bans. By raising awareness and bringing attention to this issue, we prompt meaningful discussions about what we can do to ensure that young people learn about different perspectives.

I’m sure you might sympathize with the helpless feeling of hearing about another mass shooting, book banning, discrimination against trans communities, and so on. It’s through the sisterhood I have with my IGNITE college chapter that I found my passion to take collective action and engage in politics.

Will you make a gift today to help me, and IGNITE chapter leaders, organize across the country? Our goal is to grow our chapters to 70+ strong this next year! Together we will challenge unjust policies and continue to drive change in our communities.

You open doors of opportunity every time you give. Thank you!

In solidarity,

Isabella Fuentes

P.S. If you aren’t familiar, IGNITE chapters are student-led clubs on high school and college campuses. Chapters introduce the idea of political power to their peers and organize activities like voter registration drives, policy workshops, and meetings with elected leaders. Help us fund chapters by making a gift today. Click here to bring a chapter to a campus near you.
