No one should have to choose between being there for their family and a paycheck. That?s why it?s time for paid family and medical leave in Michigan.?

When I had my first daughter, I was also caring for my mom, who was dying of brain cancer, and beginning my first legislative term. I was trying to be a great mom, caretaker, and policymaker. Even with help, I understand how hard it is to raise a child, care for yourself, and juggle your work. Right now, around 77% of Michigan workers do not have access to paid family and medical leave. They deserve better.??

Some politicians who oppose paid family?leave are being urged to call it ?summer break for adults?. But sleepless nights and endless diaper changes as you care for your new baby or chemotherapy appointments to treat your mom?s cancer aren?t a ?break?. Paid family and medical leave provide stability during difficult times, allowing you to focus on what matters most?the people you love. I won?t let anyone make light of the importance of being able to focus on family and health.?
