Warren: "The filibuster is giving a veto to the gun industry. It gives a veto to the oil industry."

Sign the petition: "Bernie, we agree with you on so many issues -- all of which are moot if you hand Mitch McConnell a veto" with the filibuster.

Turn on images to see Warren make the case that she is the candidate who can pass a progressive agenda. Share this on Facebook and on Twitter.

Imagine a revolutionary army following a fearless leader into battle…up a mountain…and falling over a cliff.

In last night’s debate, Elizabeth Warren said clearly, "Bernie and I agree on a lot of things, but I think I would make a better president than Bernie…I will be an effective president."

Warren pointed out that if Democrats retake the Senate, Bernie would give Mitch McConnell a veto over a progressive agenda by continuing the ancient filibuster rule that goes beyond the Constitution and requires 60 votes instead of 50 to pass anything.

She said, "The filibuster is giving a veto to the gun industry. It gives a veto to the oil industry…Many people on this stage do not support rolling back the filibuster. Until we're ready to do that, we can't have real change."

Pete Buttigieg proved that a broken clock is occasionally right, saying, "How are we going to deliver a revolution if you won't even support a rule change?"

Can you sign this petition to Bernie? "Bernie, we agree with you on so many issues -- all of which are moot if you hand Mitch McConnell a veto. Please join Elizabeth Warren in promising to eliminate the 60-vote filibuster rule if Democrats retake the Senate majority and Mitch McConnell tries to block our priorities."

(Then, can you donate $6 or more to help Elizabeth Warren win a bunch of delegates on Super Tuesday in 6 days? Chip in here.)

We've heard from PCCC members on this issue. One who supports Sanders said, "This is one of the few ways I know I disagree with Sanders on an issue." Another said, "I did not know this," referring to Bernie's position on the filibuster.

Here’s Warren’s fuller argument:

"What I've seen is gun safety legislation introduced, get a majority, and then doesn't pass because of the filibuster.

"Understand this, the filibuster is giving a veto to the gun industry. It gives a veto to the oil industry. It's going to give a veto on immigration. Until we're willing to dig in and say that if Mitch McConnell is going to do to the next Democratic president what he did to President Obama, and that is try to block every single thing he does, that we are willing to roll back the filibuster, go with the majority vote, and do what needs to be done for the American people..

"Many people on this stage do not support rolling back the filibuster. Until we're ready to do that, we can't have real change."

Sign the petition urging Bernie Sanders to join Elizabeth Warren in doing the obvious and effective thing: Require a simple majority to pass a progressive agenda if we take back the Senate Majority.

Warren’s filibuster argument was part of a broader effectiveness contrast with Sanders:

On Wall Street, she said: "Bernie and I both wanted to help rein in Wall Street. In 2008, we both got our chance. But I dug in. I fought the big banks. I built the coalitions, and I won."

On Medicare For All, she said: "Bernie and I both want to see universal health care, but Bernie's plan doesn't explain how to get there, doesn't show how we're going to get enough allies into it, and doesn't show enough about how we're going to pay for it. I dug in. I did the work. And then Bernie's team trashed me for it. We need a president who is going to dig in, do the hard work, and actually get it done."

She declared, "We need a president who is going to dig in, do the hard work, and actually get it done. Progressives have got one shot…I will be an effective president."

Amen. Donate $6 to her campaign here – to fuel her efforts in the 6 days through Super Tuesday.

Thanks for being a bold progressive.
