John –
All across the country, and especially here in the South, LGBTQ youth are being targeted by a new wave of anti-LGBTQ policies.
As state legislative sessions (finally) come to a close, more than 30 anti-LGBTQ state education laws have been passed, and 21 states - including almost every Southern state - now ban gender-affirming care for youth. These laws are cruel, wrong and unjust.
Along with partners across the South, we will continue doing everything in our power to fight these laws, from federal courthouses to local school board meetings. But the story doesn’t stop there. We are witnessing incredible resilience and resistance among LGBTQ youth, their friends, family, teachers, coaches, and medical providers. A growing majority of people - in the South and country - support LGBTQ youth and full LGBTQ equality, and the power of that is palpable on the ground here.
The team at the Campaign for Southern Equality wants to make sure LGBTQ youth across the South feel that love and support during this very difficult time. That's why we are once again partnering with youth-serving organizations across the South to distribute care packages to LGBTQ youth. Last year, we distributed 300 care packages; this year, we want to spread the love to even more youth by sending 600 care packages, including to youth whose families have been supported through our Southern Trans Youth Emergency Project. The care packages also include printed books we’ve created of the messages of support that so, so many of you sent in from around the country and world, so know that the letters and notes you sent will be traveling far and wide.
We need your help to make this happen! For just $25, you can sponsor a care package for an LGBTQ youth in the South. Donate here.
