This is unacceptable, John.In their first weeks back to school, thousands of students — in majority Black cities — are facing early dismissal or school closures because of extreme heat.

After breaking the record for the hottest summer on record, the climate crisis is continuing to set record-high temperatures across the country. And it’s clear that many schools — where children are expected to have a safe environment to learn, connect, and thrive — are NOT equipped to handle it. Our infrastructure is being tested and it’s failing.
That’s why hundreds of students in over 45 schools across the country are launching their Green New Deal for Schools campaigns over the next few months. If you’d like to support their efforts in reclaiming their schools, please consider making a donation (any amount helps!) to help launch GND4S campaigns this fall. [[link removed]]

Our GND4S campaigns will make schools places of refuge for when climate disasters strike, transition our buildings and buses to clean energy, rewrite our curriculum to include the full realities of the climate crisis, give all students free, sustainable school lunches, and prepare every single student for a good-paying union job in the new green economy.

This is the project of our generation. And we won’t stop until we’ve won.
Onwards,
Sunrise
