Over the last four months, the Left has launched an unprecedented crusade against President Biden’s top political opponent: President Donald J. Trump. This effort has resulted in four indictments across four jurisdictions, plunging our nation into dark and unchartered waters. 

The ultimate goal of these politically-motivated prosecutions is quite clear. Rather than battling it out at the ballot box next November, the Left is determined to put their chief political rival behind bars. This nefarious plot is intended to limit President Trump’s ability to campaign effectively, as key court dates coincidentally coincide with major events during the busy primary season. In short, regardless of the eventual outcome, the process becomes the punishment.

This overt election interference continues to undermine both our Republic and our fair system of justice. I refuse to sit on the sidelines while this sinister scheme unfolds — especially as your hard-earned tax dollars are being used to fund it.

Therefore, I recently announced that I intend to offer two amendments during the ongoing appropriations process in order to stop this election interference in its tracks. The goal is simple: no federal funds should be used to prosecute any major presidential candidate prior to the 2024 election. One amendment takes aim at federal prosecutions, while the second bars funding for these prosecutions at the state and local level.

Together, Jack Smith, Alvin Bragg, and Fani Willis have shamelessly led the political persecution of President Trump. It’s reprehensible that their prosecutorial misconduct is being rewarded by receiving taxpayer dollars, which is why I’m proud to lead the fight to defund their dangerous election interference efforts.

We simply cannot allow the sitting President of the United States to weaponize our justice system to take down his political foe. Regardless of one’s views of President Trump, we must ensure that the American people decide who wins the White House — not Joe Biden, not radical left-wing prosecutors, and not left-wing juries in Democrat districts. 

It’s imperative that Congress use its power of the purse to protect the integrity of our elections, restore Americans’ faith in our government, and dismantle our nation’s two-tiered system of justice. Please know that I’m fully committed to helping lead this effort, and I look forward to sharing more with you as the upcoming funding battle unravels when members return to Washington next week.

Last week, President Biden’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) issued its latest attack on law-abiding gun owners nationwide. The agency noticed a new proposed rule to implement backdoor universal background checks — a severely misguided move that used the bipartisan anti-gun legislation that was passed and enacted last summer as its cover. Under this latest tyrannical tactic, any American who sells even a single firearm for profit — including to a family member — can be considered “engaged in business” of selling guns, subsequently forcing these individuals to obtain a federal firearms license, conduct a background check, and complete gun registration paperwork under federal law. 

Ultimately, this new 108-paged proposed rule is yet another attempt to advance the Left’s anti-gun agenda by expanding the ATF’s illegal gun registry and making it far more difficult for private citizens to sell firearms. As a Federal Firearm Licensee and staunch defender of our Second Amendment freedoms, I vehemently oppose the ATF’s unconstitutional efforts to create backdoor universal background checks and infringe on Americans’ unalienable right to keep and bear arms. Please know that in response to this announcement, I’m currently working on measures to block and defund this rogue agency’s latest anti-gun efforts in order to protect our Second Amendment liberties.
