220,000 working Mississippians are counting on our state leaders to expand Medicaid eligibility. But no one of our elected officials can make it happen on their own. That’s why we need to elect Medicaid expansion advocates up and down the ballot, including Greta Kemp Martin as Mississippi Attorney General.
Thankfully, we have a strong Democratic candidate running for Governor who has also pledged his support to expanding Medicaid on day one. But, Mississippi Today breaks down why it isn’t quite that simple: “The bottom line is that if there was an effort to expand Medicaid through the waiver program, an appropriation by the Legislature to fund the program most likely still would be needed. But if a governor did expand Medicaid and figure out a way to pay for the program without the Legislature, it likely would result in litigation and be left to the state courts to determine whether it was legal.”
We need a strong attorney general at the helm to protect healthcare access in our state courts. And that’s exactly what Greta will do when we elect her this November.
Thanks for your support – we can’t do this without you!
