Friend,

Whether it’s Labor Day or not — we are always celebrating and honoring the
contributions of workers nationwide who keep our country moving forward — and we
can’t do that without also calling out and fighting back against the
anti-worker, anti-union attacks that seek to undermine our progress.

Take Florida, for example. Undocumented workers have always played a critical role in building Florida’s
economy and strengthening its communities. Instead of acknowledging this,
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has chosen to exploit them for political gain.

This May, DeSantis signed SB 1718 — an anti-immigrant, anti-worker bill that
imposes restrictions and penalties on undocumented workers and those who assist
them, with the intent of deterring them from working. This law is a threat to workers, their loved ones, and Florida’s economy. It
also opens the door to more worker exploitation and labor law violations across
the state.

In fact, the Florida Policy Institute projects that as SB 1718 pushes immigrants
and their families out of the state, Florida could see a 10% reduction in its
construction, agriculture, and hospitality workforce, potentially causing a
$12.6 billion loss statewide within one year.

Friend, politicians like DeSantis will stop at nothing to
demonize our communities and decimate our economy. As DeSantis eyes the
presidency, his proposed agenda threatens the very fabric of our society, from
his plans to end birthright citizenship to finish building the wall on our
southern border and more [[link removed]] .

For NILC-IJF, the path ahead is clear: we will do everything in our power to
ensure extremism does not return to the White House , and we hope you’ll continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with us in this
fight.

Thank you,

— NILC Immigrant Justice Fund
