Meet Earl Inscore. Earl had been living on the streets of North Carolina for the past three years, unable to secure employment because he lacked an ID.

After years of attempting to secure his ID documents with little success, Earl was finally able to get the documents he needed with help from Pam Pearson, VoteRiders’ National Voter ID Assistance Director and North Carolina Coalition Coordinator.

It took a lot of time, patience, and Uber rides, but Earl did get his ID — and now can start the job he was hired for but couldn’t begin until he had one.

One thing that made getting his ID so hard was that the Social Security office required a demographic record from a local medical office — a record that the medical office didn’t know how to provide!

Following this frustrating experience, Earl reached out to Pam, who gave him the hands-on, one-on-one support needed to get what he needed from the medical office, then the Social Security Administration, and finally the DMV.

Without a job or steady housing, the fees and transportation could have been a deal breaker for Earl. That’s why VoteRiders’ help is always free for every eligible voter, and we cover all fees associated with securing documents and transportation.

“Pam was a really big help,” Earl told us. “Now I have a job, I can get housing, I can do everything now.”

And that might soon include voting. As a returning citizen, Pam let Earl know that his freedom to vote would be restored after he completed his probationary period. Once his probation is complete, Earl will have the opportunity to use his new North Carolina ID to vote!
