Friends,
New York City’s infamous housing prices have skyrocketed into a full-blown housing crisis featuring high demand, short supply, and rising costs.
Data for Progress polled NYC voters and found that they want lawmakers to prioritize creating more permanent affordable rental housing, creating housing that's affordable across income levels, and creating housing that prioritizes affordability over making a profit.
81% of voters support a “social housing” solution to the city’s housing crisis—which includes prioritizing permanently affordable housing, giving tenants more agency over housing developments that impact them, and providing housing that's affordable across income levels.
Our polling makes clear that New York City voters are unhappy with the current hyper-inflated, for-profit housing system and are eager for solutions that treat housing like the public good that it is.
Data for Progress is able to poll on progressive issues like affordable housing because we’re independent of corporate funding. Support our work with a contribution and help us get this polling in front of the legislators who can push for progress!
