NYT: How Trump’s Election Lies Left the Michigan G.O.P. Broken and Battered

In case you didn’t, let me highlight a few of my favorite snippets from this article detailing how Trump and his MAGA extremists have left the MIGOP fractured and rudderless:

  • The Michigan Republican Party is starving for cash. 
  • A group of prominent activists — including a former statewide candidate — was hit this month with felony charges connected to a bizarre plot to hijack election machines. 
  • And in the face of these troubles, suspicion and infighting have been running high. 
  • A recent state committee meeting led to a fistfight, a spinal injury, and a pair of shattered dentures.
  • Bitter disputes, power struggles and contentious primaries followed [Trump’s election lies], leaving the Michigan Republican Party a husk of itself.
  • No Republican has won a statewide election there since Mr. Trump won the state in 2016

The list goes on. 

Right now, Michigan Democrats are in a strong position to continue our leadership and work to make Michigan a better, brighter place for everyone. But, if we grow too complacent, we risk giving the MIGOP a chance to recover and defeat us.

Michigan will be one of, if not the biggest, battleground states in 2024. Huge national special interests are finding other avenues to pour money into Michigan to help MAGA extremists defeat us. We can’t let them outspend, outorganize, or outplay us.
