Almost every week on social media, I get comments like this:

When I made the decision to run for federal office, I knew what I was getting into. Having thick skin is part of the job. But what hurts the most is knowing this kind of bigotry and xenophobia exists at every level of our society. And some of the most ignorant are in the highest level of government right now.
This country is a land of immigrants. Even more, the land that we call home was stolen from indigenous people through brutal genocide and cultural erasure.
There is no definition of an “American” name.
Ocasio-Cortez is an American name.
Omar is an American name.
Tlaib is an American name.
Putzova is an American name.
There is no single way to be an “American”. America is a diverse mosaic of all people who’ve contributed to the fabric of our country. That includes all the immigrants who’ve come to live here and contribute.
To me, it’s our greatest strength .
It’s a shame there are so many with such narrow definitions of what it means to be American or sound American, but I believe there are far more of us who understand the true nature of our strength. Thank you for standing with me and rejecting all forms of racial bias and injustice.
Together, we will drown out bigotry and xenophobia.
