For many, this three-day weekend is for spending time with friends and family, enjoying the end of the summer, and getting our kids ready to head back to school.

But it’s also a time to honor the courage and accomplishments of America’s labor unions, who we can thank for paid sick leave, safe working conditions, and fair wages.

Last month, Mikie stood in solidarity with local nurses who continue to strike for safe staffing and fair compensation.

Mikie knows firsthand the impact a good-paying union job can have on a family. Her grandfather’s union job helped her family move out of poverty and into the middle class during the Great Depression.

It’s why Mikie proudly supports the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, landmark legislation to support workers' basic right to organize and negotiate for higher pay, better benefits, and safer working conditions.

But Congressional Republicans have continued to block this bill from passing, and in too many places, the bitter fight for collective bargaining and organizing rights is still ongoing.

The PRO Act is the most monumental effort to protect and expand those rights we've seen in decades.
