1) 4.5 Million Missing American Workers
The job market is still strong for workers, but it has cooled off markedly over the past nine months. At the start of the year, we had an all-time high of twice as many job openings for every unemployed worker. Now that ratio has dropped to 1.5 job openings for every unemployed worker.

Ratio of Job Openings to Unemployed Americans
That ratio remains historically high, but the statistic is artificially inflated because of the big rise in the number of adults that are not in the labor force – i.e., either working or looking for work. In other words, they are not counted in the denominator in the chart above.

Adults Not in the Labor Force
There are about 4.5 million people not working today who could be, and they are excluded from the unemployment rate calculation. Adjusting the latest 3.8 percent unemployment rate to account for these missing workers gives a much higher rate above 6%.

2) A Biden v. Trump Rematch
Pollster John McLaughlin has briefed us on his just-completed national survey of 1,000 likely voters. It is modeled on the 2020 turnout in terms of party affiliation. His poll – like many others of late — shows that a Biden-Trump rematch is looking like a virtual tie right now.

The most interesting result:
* The percentage of Trump voters in 2020 who regret voting for him is 2%.
* The percentage of Biden voters who regret voting for him is closer to 7%.
* “There actually is a Biden 2020 voter who is a Trump 2024 voter,” McLaughlin tells us. “They are 4% of the total electorate.”

Democrats are aware of these lousy poll numbers and we predict that there is at least a 50-50 chance that Biden won’t be the Democratic nominee.

3) Scientist Turn Whistleblower on How the Climate Debate Is Skewed
Patrick Brown recently left his academic post at Johns Hopkins University for a private think tank. He has just written an eye-opening piece for Bari Weiss's Free Press website: “I Left Out the Full Truth to Get My Climate Change Paper Published” is the headline. The subtitle is: “I just got published in Nature because I stuck to a narrative I knew the editors would like. That’s not the way science should work.”

[link removed]
Brown's piece is a blistering attack on the veracity of scientists, the media, and academic journals:

He says the journals "want climate papers that support certain preapproved narratives—even when those narratives come at the expense of broader knowledge for society. To put it bluntly, climate science has become less about understanding the complexities of the world and more about serving as a kind of Cassandra, urgently warning the public about the dangers of climate change. However understandable this instinct may be, it distorts a great deal of climate science research, misinforms the public, and most importantly, makes practical solutions more difficult to achieve."

He also says “It is standard practice to calculate impacts for scary hypothetical future warming scenarios that strain credibility while ignoring potential changes in technology and resilience that would lessen the impact. Those scenarios always make for good headlines."

Brown’s admission only confirms that when it comes to the climate change issue, it is all politics and propaganda and very little science. Very sad.

4) Fauci on Wearing Masks: Listen to Me and Ignore the Science

Stick a fork in Anthony Fauci. He’s finally done.

Fauci got skewered on — of all places — CNN, when the host of the show Michael Smerconish quoted extensively from the most comprehensive study on masks – which found: "There is just no evidence that they make any difference. Full stop."

[link removed]
Fauci was cornered, so instead of admitting he was wrong about the imperative of wearing masks, he pathetically replied: "When you’re talking about the effect on the epidemic or the pandemic as a whole, the data are less strong… but when you talk about an individual basis of someone protecting themselves or protecting themselves from spreading it to others, there's no doubt that there are many studies that show there is an advantage.”

Dr. Tom Jefferson, the Oxford professor who is the lead author of the Cochrane review, fired back:

“So, Fauci is saying that masks work for individuals but not at a population level? That simply doesn’t make sense,” said Jefferson.

“And he says there are ‘other studies’…but what studies? He doesn’t name them so I cannot interpret his remarks without knowing what he is referring to,” he added.

Jefferson explains that the entire point of the Cochrane review was to systematically sift through all the available randomised data on physical interventions such as masks and determine what was useful and what was not.

“It might be that Fauci is relying on trash studies,” said Jefferson. “Many of them are observational, some are cross-sectional, and some actually use modelling. That is not strong evidence.”

“Once we excluded such low-quality studies from the review, we concluded there was no evidence that masks reduced transmission,” he added.

Our view: If people want to wear masks because it makes them feel safer or because they like to virtue signal, fine. It’s a free country.

But for three years now, Fauci’s been an actor playing the part of a health expert on TV. He’s duped a lot of Americans with his bad advice. He needs to apologize to America and then go away forever.

5) No, Florida Doesn't Say You Can Blow All Your Scholarship Money at Disney
The left is amplifying a fake news story—gone viral—that in Florida kids can go to Disney World with their school voucher money. This is the actual field trip policy from the guidance document governing the use of educational scholarship accounts in Florida:

[link removed]
You'll notice some features the press hasn't mentioned: the amount spent on field trips is capped at $500, can only be used for the eligible student, and documentation of an educational benefit is required.

That said, we wouldn't object to deleting field trips as an approved expense.
