A Month in Review: August 2023 Congressional Update

Earlier this month, I hosted Small Business Administration Administrator Isabel Guzman in our community. It’s been so important for me to bring Biden administration officials to see our community and meet the people of our great city. As small businesses are the backbone of our community, I was glad Administrator Guzman joined us as part of her Latino Prosperity Tour to celebrate entrepreneurship.

Additionally, I hope you saw the news about the Climate Adaptation Plan (CAP) Act I introduced this month. Two years after creating the Climate Crisis Advisory Committee with community stakeholders, we released the complete framework on how to address the climate crisis and its effects on the borderland. One of the most consequential votes during the pandemic was the American Rescue Plan.

It was wonderful to have joined the Town of Horizon to talk about this legislation’s impact & the continued work of House Democrats.

After years of delays & meetings, I was thrilled to join HOME El Paso for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Ruben E. Salazar Apartments.

Affordable housing is a continued priority for me, and I cannot wait for the project to be complete and create 286 homes!

I had the pleasure of touring the Centro de Salud Familiar La Fe facility, a critical contributor to our community’s health and well-being.

It was wonderful to see first-hand the technology upgrades that were made possible through the federal funding I secured last year.

It was lovely to sit down recently with superintendents in our area and talk about the services my team can provide.

I met with UTEP researchers conducting an air quality study on BOTA and gave them an update on my relevant work in Congress.

I appreciate the commitment to social and environmental justice for the people living near the port, those who cross it, and those who work there.

I cannot wait to see the results, especially as the work continues with the modernization project funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

It was an honor to present a Congressional Record to Consul General Eric Cohen for his extraordinary service to our country.

I’m grateful for your dedication to American citizens in Chihuahua and for forging strong relations between our border communities.

I joined the City of Socorro for a community meeting to discuss my work in Congress.

It was a pleasure to stop by a VSO leadership meeting to discuss how I’m working on behalf of veterans and servicemembers in Congress.

I proudly shared I’ve supported increased resources for veteran caregivers, improved access to benefits, and more.

Small businesses are the backbone of our community, and over the past 2 years, almost 15k have opened in El Paso.

It was lovely to join the El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to discuss the work I'm doing on your behalf in Congress.
