JOhn,
First, I want to thank you for all your support in the last month. Second, I hope you had a safe and happy Labor Day weekend.
The holiday that marks the first weekend of September is to honor the history of the movement for workers’ rights. It’s all thanks to unions that we have weekends, pensions, child labor laws, and safer workplace conditions.
The success of our workers means a stronger country for all of us. We must never forget that – and we must remain vigilant against all efforts to roll back workers' rights.
I’m proud to have voted for historic infrastructure and CHIPS legislation that’s led to the creation of thousands of good-paying union jobs. I'm proud to have twice voted for the PRO Act, which would make it easier for employees to collectively bargain and crack down on underhanded union-busting tactics (I was deeply disappointed to see this bill stall in the Senate thanks to the filibuster, and I won’t stop advocating to see it become law). And my resolve remains strong to fight for expanded paid family and medical leave – because no worker should be forced to choose between their job and their health or loved ones.
I’m encouraged by the surge of union memberships around the country over the last few years. Even in the face of strong opposition from Republican state legislatures and some major corporate interests, folks are standing up and demanding fair pay to keep up with the cost of living, reasonable hours, and basic dignity. And in many instances, they are succeeding and making their workplaces more equal, safer, and productive. Their victories boost our economy and are helping create more jobs.
I’m proud to be a supporter of our unions, and I will continue to be a voice for them in Congress.
Best,
Jennifer
