As the climate crisis continues growing, we witness record-breaking disasters yearly. One that we have come to see far too often is the increase in hurricanes and tropical storms that batter Florida. Not only have insurers stopped covering properties in Florida and other areas susceptible to hurricane damage, but the options left are costly.
According to Forbes, "Six of the top 15 metropolitan areas at risk for storm surge in the U.S.—Miami, Jacksonville, Tampa, Bradenton, Fort Myers and Naples—are all located in the eye of “storm surge,” wind-driven water strong enough to drive homes right off their foundations[.]"
While the citizens of Florida are left to deal with the damage of these storms, the Republican lawmakers from the state - notably those like Governor Ron DeSantis, Matt Gaetz, and Rick Scott - continue to downplay or completely deny climate change and its effects. John, help us elect lawmakers who will act accordingly and help us combat the effects of climate change and help our fellow Americans.
