Texas braces for the historic impeachment trial of Attorney General Ken Paxton
Donald Trump's seemingly endless scandals and indictments have an understandably strong gravitational pull on media coverage, but it's worth noting that, throughout the country, the Republican Party is suffering from systemic internal rot. On Tuesday, the Texas GOP will enter unchartered waters as the state Senate convenes as a high court to consider the impeachment of Attorney General Ken Paxton, an impressively corrupt official accused by his own party of taking bribes, committing financial fraud, and regularly abusing his office.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Judge deals major blow to Republicans in Florida
The pro-democracy forces in the increasingly dystopian Sunshine State were handed a rare victory over Republican fascism as a circuit judge ruled that Ron Desantis' laughably gerrymandered legislative map is unconstitutional and must be redrawn.

Biden swipes at Trump's jobs record in combative Labor Day speech
During a holiday rally in Philadelphia, the pro-union president touted his historic infrastructure record while mocking the presumptive Republican nominee and serially indicted con man as a "great real estate builder" who "didn't build a damn thing" during his disastrous tenure.

Texas company displayed hate symbols and nooses, allowed managers to call Black employees the N-word, alarming EEOC lawsuit alleges
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has filed a lawsuit against one of the biggest crane providers in North America, accusing them of racial discrimination against four Black employees. According to the lawsuit, the employees had to grapple with their field manager as well as a number of colleagues who regularly used racially offensive language on the job. Also, hate symbols associated with white supremacy, like “nooses and lightning bolt stickers,” were openly displayed on the grounds with no disciplinary action taken against responsible parties.

Elon Musk goes full anti-Semite and threatens to sue the Anti-Defamation League, claiming it is "trying to kill" X
The tech billionaire bozo who loosed neo-Nazis on the platform formerly known as Twitter, is now making the hateful subtext just plain old text. According to Musk, the Anti-Defamation League is to blame for X's historic financial freefall because they falsely accused him of being anti-Semitic. Nothing screams "I'm not an anti-Semite!" quite like blaming the Jews for money woes entirely of your own making.

First lady Jill Biden tests positive for COVID-19
Thankfully, she is only experiencing mild symptoms and will remain at the Biden family home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, while she recovers. President Biden has tested negative.

Corporations think you don't care about their abuses
The Solidarity Council on Racial Equity Corporations and their political servants have spent far too long denying workers their rights — and workers are starting to fight back. But these rich CEOs believe nobody cares and they can return to abusive business as usual without consequence. That's why the Othering & Belonging Institute is collecting 100,000 signatures to send a loud and clear message that people ARE watching and NO we will NOT stand for this anymore. Will you stand in solidarity with America's workers?
UAW’s clash with Big 3 automakers shows off a more confrontational union as strike deadline looms
The resurgent American labor wave continues to wash over this nation's unchecked corporate greed. A combative United Auto Workers union is pressing General Motors, Stellantis, and Ford with audacious demands for a 46% pay raise, a 32-hour work week, and a restoration of traditional pensions. With this righteous escalation, the union has edged closer to a strike when its contract ends Sept. 14. Of course, corporate executives could just make the sensible decision and give these workers what they deserve — a mere pittance when compared to the automakers' billions in record profits — but we aren't holding our breath.
Burning Man festival road reopens, allowing thousands to escape
The long, muddy nightmare is over, and the 64,000 people who had been trapped by torrential rains are now free to leave. As they do, it's imperative that this admittedly amusing disaster be put firmly in context. This debacle was caused by extreme weather brought on by worsening climate change, and we are still not doing nearly enough to confront our new reality.
Twitter accused of helping Saudi Arabia commit human rights abuses
Twitter, or whatever Elon is calling it these days, has been accused in a disturbing civil lawsuit of disclosing confidential user data at the request of Saudi authorities at a much higher rate than it has for the US, UK, or Canada. The lawsuit was brought by Areej al-Sadhan, the sister of a Saudi aid worker who was forcibly disappeared and then later sentenced to 20 years in jail. Saudi agents infiltrated the company as far as back 2014 and helped expose thousands of anonymous Twitter users, some of whom were later reportedly detained and tortured as part of the government’s never-ending crackdown on dissent.
