Green Party of the United States

Dear Friend,

Today is Labor Day in the United States. People all over the country are enjoying a day off with family or a cookout with friends. Let us not forget though, the organizers who fought for our labor rights, those that stood (and still stand) in the way of workers’ rights, and the fight that is still happening today. The government might call this a holiday, but Greens know this is simply another day in the fight for worker’s rights.

Rights like the 8-hour workday, the 40-hour work week, the weekend, and an end to child labor practices didn’t happen because workers asked nicely. People in power fight these tooth and nail to this very day. Only strong, decisive, and often militant actions by labor organizers and the support of the public in not crossing those picket lines win these battles.

We should never forget that it is still the leaders of both duopoly parties that are fighting against labor rights. It was the Democrats, led by President Biden, who voted to deny rail workers their right to strike and blocked efforts by the rail workers to earn paid sick leave just last year. Meanwhile, Democratic donors like Starbucks CEO Howard Shultz are not held accountable for engaging in illegal union busting tactics across the country.

"The corporate rich fund and control the two major parties. Working people fund and control the Green Party. There are more of us than there are of them. If all of us contribute, we will have a party with the power to implement our pro-worker agenda, including the right to organize, bargain, and strike, to a job guarantee and living wages, to strong worker health and safety standards, to universal health care and paid family leave, and to a just transition to 100% clean energy.”

Howie Hawkins, 2020 GPUS Presidential Nominee and retired Teamster

The parties of War and Wall Street have billionaire CEO donors donating mountains of money to keep their workers under the boot of unfair labor practices and destroy their hopes of forming a union. The Green Party has YOU!
