This Labor Day, I want to uplift and support the work of Labor Unions here in Los Angeles and everywhere, starting with Unite Here! and their massive Hotel Strike and Boycott. Hotel workers have been engaging in protest activity for months, after authorizing a strike in early June. Since then, around 60 hotels have failed to renew their contracts with Unite Here! Local 11 and are subject to boycott.
🏨 While enjoying your hard-won three-day weekend this year, check the list of hotels under boycott before visiting or dining:
📬📦 Finally, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters has reached a deal with UPS, averting a strike and resulting in what they consider the “most historic collective bargaining agreement in the history of UPS."
It’s important to take time this Labor Day to recognize and understand that we are all stronger and more protected when we stand together, and that corporations cannot exist without us. It is our labor that produces value for these companies, and it is our labor that holds up the American economy. So why is it not our voices that dictate policy? That’s why I’ve made People-Centered Politics—the belief that political campaigns should not be financed by corporate donations—a core pillar of my campaign.
