Celebrating Grant Awards for First Responders

This week, I was thrilled to announce grant awards to Tenth District fire departments.

Ore Bank Pumpkin Center Volunteer Fire Department in Lincoln County was awarded a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant in the amount of $553,982.94. This grant will allow the department to increase staffing and better serve the community. Click here or on the image below to read more.

Salem Community Fire Department in Burke County was awarded an Assistance to Firefighter (AFG) Grant in the amount of $52,721.90 to purchase a compressor and cascade system for refilling self-contained breathing apparatus. Click here or on the image below to read more.

Appalachian State opens Hickory campus for first day of classes

Congratulations to Appalachian State University on opening its new Hickory campus to students last week. The University's expanded presence is tremendous asset to Catawba County and Tenth District students. I look forward to visiting the campus soon.

Giulia and I want express our condolences to Maiden native, Caleb Farley, on the tragic death of his father, Robert, last week. Caleb has battled through tremendous adversity in recent years, including losing his mother after a battle with breast cancer. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Farley family this week as they grieve this sudden loss.

House Republican bill strengthens parents' rights, protects children at school

As the new school year begins, it is important to remember that House Republicans passed the Parents Bill of Rights to ensure parents know what is being taught to their children, how our tax dollars are being spent, and when violent activity occurs at school.
